About this app

What would you find if you dug right where you stand? orecast answers that
question with data instead of promises. The map shows documented mineral and
ore occurrences, scientific fossil sites, caves, old mines and geological
features across Europe, drawn from official geological surveys and open
scientific databases.

• Documented occurrences: gold, silver, copper, fluorite and dozens of other
raw materials, each with its source
• Fossil sites with geological age and formation
• Caves, historic mines and geotopes
• An honest AI assessment: "What would I find here?" explains the local
geology in plain language
YOUR FINDS (NEW)
• Save your own finds: photo, note and the exact spot, private and visible only to you
• Share if you like: after review your find appears anonymously on the map, coarsened to about 5 km. Your exact spot stays secret

HONESTY FIRST
orecast separates what is documented from what is merely plausible. No
invented percentages, no treasure promises. If the data is thin for a spot,
the app says so. Where old war sites suggest unexploded ordnance, the map
warns you instead of encouraging you.
KNOW BEFORE YOU DIG
Collecting and digging are regulated almost everywhere in Europe and usually
need a permit. orecast shows protected and historical sites so you can check
the rules first. The app provides information, not permission.
FREE AND PRO
The map, all data layers and three AI assessments are free, no account
needed. orecast Pro adds unlimited AI assessments, the geotope layer, offline
areas for the field, GPX export and an ad-free experience.
Sources include national geological surveys (BGR, BRGM, GeoSphere Austria,
ISPRA and others), USGS mineral resource data and the Paleobiology Database.

What’s new

New: the "Vein network" map layer. It shows mapped ore veins as lines – the way the geological surveys record them, rather than as points that would suggest a precision that does not exist.

You will find it in the legend under "Mining", switchable on its own.

Honestly: so far only Saxony publishes its veins as lines. In the Ore Mountains you get a dense network, elsewhere the layer stays empty.
