Decide what you want to still be able to do at 85. Work backwards from there.
Longstanding is a quarterly benchmark: eleven field tests at ten stations, about 40 minutes, each result read against a published source.
The baseline is free and complete. After it, $29 once unlocks re-tests and everything that follows. No subscription.
HOW IT WORKS
- Choose what you want to still do at 85 from sixteen goals, such as getting up off the floor with one hand, carrying luggage through an airport or opening a new jar without help.
- Take a baseline at ten stations with a timer, a chair, a bar and a few other things. It takes about 40 minutes and can be spread over several days; each result is saved as you go.
- Re-test every 13 weeks. Any day in the two weeks after the date counts.
THE TESTS
Single-leg stand, eyes open and then eyes closed. Five sit-to-stands. Floor sit-and-rise. Grip strength, both hands. Dead hang. Push-ups. Farmer carry, timed at a load set from your body weight and age. VO₂max. Weekly moderate minutes, about zone 2. A four-flight stair climb. Waist-to-height is an optional extra.
EVERY NUMBER CARRIES ITS SOURCE
Each result names the table it is read against, with the year and who was sampled: FRIEND 2022 for VO₂max, Dodds 2014 for grip, Araújo 2020 for sit-and-rise. Where a table has to be read loosely, the result says estimated. Where no population table exists, as for the dead hang and the farmer carry, there is no percentile: the result is read against stated reference lines or your own trend. Changes smaller than a test's day-to-day noise are shown as steady, never as a loss or a gain.
THE LINE TO 85
For each goal you choose, the app works back from 85 to the level you need today, and shows where each test sits against that line. The most demanding goal for a test sets its line.
AN ESTIMATE FIRST, THEN YOUR NUMBERS
Before you measure anything, six plain questions give an estimated forecast, labelled as an estimate and never saved as results. Your baseline replaces every number in it.
QUIET BY DESIGN
At most three reminders a quarter: two weeks before a re-test, the day before, and once if the window closes unfinished. No streaks, no badges.
WHAT THIS APP IS NOT
No biological age or fitness age. No diagnosis: it is for screening and planning, not medical advice. No camera and no AI: you time and count, the app compares. No leaderboard and no other users. No account.
HEALTH CONNECT
With your permission, Longstanding reads three types of data from Health Connect: VO₂max, workouts with heart rate and resting heart rate. VO₂max fills that result; workouts and heart rate count your weekly moderate and vigorous minutes. It only reads and never writes to Health Connect. Health data stays on your phone and is never uploaded. Every value can also be entered by hand.
YOUR DATA
Everything is stored on your phone. There is no account, no server that holds your data and no analytics. Save a backup file whenever you like; your phone's own Android backup also includes the app's data.
PRICE
The baseline is free and complete: onboarding, your goals for 85 and the full baseline session, every result with its source. One payment of $29, once, unlocks everything after it: quarterly re-tests and reminders, the line to 85 for every goal, history, the quarterly sheet and share cards, and CSV export and import. No subscription; nothing renews.
Longstanding is a screening and planning tool, not a medical device, and does not diagnose anything.
