MD Weather Alerts is a Maryland weather app built around one idea: tell people what is actually happening, calmly and without drama.
OFFICIAL ALERTS, FIRST
Warnings, watches, advisories and statements come straight from the National Weather Service. Warnings always reach you — they are not a setting you can accidentally turn off. Everything noisier than that is yours to control.
CONDITIONS WHERE YOU ARE
Current conditions read from the nearest reporting station, not from a forecast, so "right now" means right now. Hourly and daily outlooks, feels-like temperature, humidity, dew point, pressure and visibility.
A MAP OF THE STATE
Live rain radar, National Weather Service alert areas, and community reports pinned where they happened. Reports fade as they age, so a fresh pin always reads as fresher than an old one, and the map only shows the last eight hours.
YOUR NEIGHBOURS, NOT STRANGERS
Marylanders report what they are seeing — flooding on a back road, hail in the next county, a tree down. Community reports are always shown as community reports, visibly distinct from official data, and never presented as official. Confirm reports you can see for yourself, follow reporters you trust, and comment on what matters locally.
A COMMUNITY THAT SPANS BOTH PLATFORMS
Posts, photo stories, direct messages, mentions and follows — shared with the iPhone app, so you are talking to the same Marylanders either way, not a separate Android island. Plus Maryland weather headlines gathered in one place.
LIVE ROOMS WHEN WEATHER TURNS
When a hazard is active, a live room opens for the affected area: reports as they arrive, a chat room, and a recap once it clears. Regional and statewide rooms stay open all the time.
EARN AS YOU HELP
Reporting and confirming earns points toward badges, collectible items, Weatherlings and colour themes. All of it is cosmetic. Nothing you unlock changes your alerts, your credibility, or anyone's leaderboard position. Points are earned by using the app and are never sold.
MD WEATHER ALERTS +
An optional subscription. It adds a morning briefing, alert thresholds you set yourself, commute checks, your full reporting stats, lightning and outage map layers, and subscriber-only palettes. Every watch and warning stays free for everyone, always — the subscription buys extras, never safety.
NOTIFICATIONS YOU CONTROL
Separate toggles throughout, split so muting community chatter can never mute a tornado warning. Optional quiet hours hold back the chatty ones overnight — warnings and live escalations always come through anyway.

Every county, every region, one state. Not a national app with Maryland bolted on.
BUILT TO BE READABLE
Light and dark themes, Material You colour if you want the app to follow your wallpaper, full support for large font sizes, and screen-reader labels throughout. Text contrast is checked against every one of the 36 themes rather than eyeballed on one.

No analytics SDK. No advertising. No selling anything to anyone. Location is used to tell you about weather near you, and for nothing else.
