About this app

Management of acute emergencies is a capability both primary care and acute care physicians
should process. Timely recognition and management of deteriorating patients and quick recognition
and management of critically ill patients need considerable skill and knowledge and could be
facilitated by checklists, flow charts, scoring systems, and more recently integrated computer
software. All these help to minimize deal in identifying the high-risk patient and guiding and
management in a way that any step of management is not missed.
Deterioration of patients does not occur suddenly (other than anaphylaxis). They get unwell over a
period which is called chain deterioration where a healthy person becomes ill and then critically ill
ultimately leading to cardiac arrest. Cardiac arrest is ‘the’ deadliest of all the emergencies which is
the quickest to kill so should be identified and treated promptly or else would lead to death or leave
the patient in a state of permanent brain injure which is even worse. Early recognition, early CPR,
early defibrillation and post resuscitation care (Chain of survival) is the approach to patient in cardiac
arrest. The reverse of deterioration, (Chain of recovery) is how a patient who suffered a cardiac
arrest gradually improves to discharge from hospital.
This app is designed to guide any clinician whether acute care or primary care, to help recognize a
patient who needs prompt care and gives a stepwise guide as to what should be done in each step as they manage their patients.
