About this app

micomia redesigned the calculator with the aim of creating a system that feels natural to humans.

We've spent a long time becoming accustomed to using calculators.

We input numbers, select arithmetic symbols, and translate the calculation into a mathematical expression.

Now, most people can do this almost unconsciously.

However, upon closer examination, every time we use a calculator, we're translating our thoughts into a form that the calculator can understand.

For example, let's say we think,
"How much money do I need in total to give 3,000 yen each to 14 people?"

However, to use a typical calculator, we first need to translate this into a calculation formula:
"3,000 x 14"

and input that into the calculator.

The same applies to thinking,
"How much is 20% off 100,000 yen?"

First, we think about the calculation method:
"If it's 20% off, the remaining amount is 80%, so 100,000 x 0.8"

and then convert it into a form that the calculator can understand.

We questioned this.

Should this translation really be done by a human?

Is it even natural for humans to think about calculation methods and adapt them to the input format of a calculator?

What humans want isn't to operate a calculator correctly.

"I want to know how much is needed."

"I want to know how much it will cost per person."

"I want to know how much it will be after a 20% discount."

That's all it should be.

Therefore, micomia rethought the calculator as a tool from the human perspective.

"3000 yen for 14 people"

"3000 yen for fourteen people"

"3000 yen for fourteen people"

Input what you think exactly as it is. Or, speak it exactly as it is.

Instead of humans learning how to input into a calculator, the calculator understands human expression.

We believe this is more natural for humans.

This app wasn't created to add new functions to a calculator.

Using AI or creating a highly functional calculator itself is not the goal.

The question we re-examined was:
"Is the act of calculating truly human in its current form?"

Precisely because it already exists and everyone knows how to use it, we questioned that assumption.
We aimed to reduce the parts where humans have to adapt to the system and redesign it to allow humans to live more naturally.
From this idea, micomia redesigned the calculator.

From a calculator for inputting formulas,
to a calculator that can directly communicate what you're thinking.

Instead of humans learning the language of the system,
the system understands human expression.

micomia aims to design a system that allows humans to live more naturally.
