About this app

"Dear you," is a pen pal app for exchanging letters with someone you've never met.

It doesn't have to be as fast as a messaging app.
A conversation deepens slowly, at the pace of a letter.

📮 Send one, receive one
First, write a letter and mail it.
Then you can pick one of someone else's letters and read it.
No names, no ages — only letters pass between you.
Your very first letter gets priority delivery into someone's mailbox.

💌 When your letter is read, you become friends
The moment someone picks your letter and opens it, you become letter friends.
Once you're friends, you can reply as many times as you like.
You can even enclose a photo with your reply.

✈️ Airmail — across the language barrier
A letter sent by airmail goes out to mailboxes around the world.
When someone who speaks another language opens it, it's translated automatically —
and replies are translated into each other's language, too.

⏳ Time capsule — to my future self
Pick an opening date and send a letter to your future self.
Six months, one year, three years… even you can't open it before the date.
When the day comes, it arrives with a notification.

🎨 Decorate your letters
Choose letter paper and envelope materials, add a stamp, and decorate with stickers.
When your letter is opened, a postmark is stamped on your copy.
As letters with one friend add up — 3, 10, 100… — commemorative stamps are unlocked.
In a hurry? Add express — express letters sit near the front of the mailbox.

✍️ Handwriting fonts
Pick a handwriting font and text size in Font Style.

💡 On days you don't know what to write
Tap Topic Ideas and get a letter topic worth trying today.

🔒 Looking after each other
Every letter to another person is screened automatically before it's sent.
Letters that try to exchange contacts or social accounts, or that feel hurtful, are filtered out —
and you can report and block, too.
Please don't write personal details like your name or contact info in a letter.

🌙 And more
Dark mode is supported, and the app is available in 15 languages.

✨ Subscription Pass
- No full-screen ads
- Write your next letter without waiting
- Express fee (an ad) is waived

It's a great concept, but I don't want to write a letter each time I want to read a letter. What if I get a horrible letter? A letter not worth the effort I put into mine? It only promotes poor letters with no effort just to be able to read more than one.

Hello, thank you for your valuable feedback! However, without this system, the need to read is stronger, so letters will never remain in the inbox. If you have any better ideas or systems, please let me know! The key is ensuring there are always letters to read. Have a great day! :)

This system of writing a letter and only being able to read one after seems nice & fair on paper but it actually sucked. I often wrote long or thoughtful letters only to select boring, no-effort letters. It seems to encourage people to write meaningless things to maximize the amount of letters they send.

Hello. Thank you for your valuable feedback. I was concerned that without a system like this, the need to read letters would become so strong that there would be no letters left to read. I will consider your suggestion so that everyone can happily enjoy the culture of letter reading. Thank you.

The concept is great and I like that I can have a pen pal writing and exchanging letters experience on the app. However, everytime I want to open another letter that appears on my feed, I can't because the letter always has zero words. I don't know if that's true or just a bug the app has, but it tends to get quite annoying which is why I don't feel inclined to rate this app five stars.

Hello, thank you for leaving a nice review and feedback. I think it will help us improve the app. We have taken measures to send a letter only when you fill in 50 characters for your feedback. Please email me if you would like to report any other detailed errors. huurray@gmail.com
