Remnants is an ongoing, multi-part project by artist David Beattie, examining mythology, folklore and oral history in the age of digital reproduction and algorithmic narratives. Responding more broadly to the mythology of stone circles but specifically engaging with the sites of ritual at Lough Gur, Remnants explores connections and parallels between oral history and machine-generated data, speculating about future knowledge and future archaeology in the digital age.
The final part of the long-term project for Askeaton Contemporary Arts, creates a stone circle for Askeaton, connecting the stone circles of nearby Lough Gur to contemporary Askeaton. This app will allow you to discover physical and virtual stones situated around the town.
Follow the instructions on the app or on printed material locally to discover the locations of these stones. Follow the trail and see if you can complete the circle. A solstice event will take place on the 21st June to celebrate the project and solar alignment in Askeaton.
