About this app

Boxwright is a subwoofer box calculator that checks your numbers before you cut. Pick your sub or type its Thiele/Small values and get the sealed box or ported box for it: net volume, port size and length, tuning, outside dimensions and a cut sheet for your board. It works offline in the garage, with no account and no ads.

FIVE THINGS IT DOES FOR YOU
• Input check. Datasheets have typos and unit slips. Boxwright cross-checks Qts against Qes and Qms, Fs against Mms and Cms, Vas against Sd and Cms, and flags Vas typed in cubic feet as litres or Xmax printed peak to peak. Missing values are worked out and marked "derived".
• Car verdict. Enter your amp's RMS power and your vehicle. You get one of three answers, fine, port noise likely or over Xmax, with the port air speed, the cone travel and a subsonic filter setting. If the port is too fast, Boxwright shows the port area you need and what it does to the box.
• Fit to your trunk, then a cut sheet. Give the net volume and two outside sizes and Boxwright works out the third. Rectangle or wedge. The cut sheet has every panel, the double baffle, the port walls and the driver cutout, in 1/16" fractions or millimetres.
• Check my box. A built-in tone generator plays a slow sweep through your amp. Where the cone nearly stops is the real tuning of the box you built, and Boxwright tells you how much to shorten or lengthen the port to move it. It can also measure a sub box you already have.
• Build card. One image with the sub, net volume, tuning, port size and speed, F3 and a small drawing, plus a project file a friend can open.

THE MATH, SHOWN
Every result has a "How it was computed" line with your numbers. Gross volume minus the driver, port, port walls and bracing gives the net volume, and port length and net volume are solved together, so the port's own air is never forgotten. It is also a port length calculator for slot port, round and flared ports, several ports, and slot ports that fold into an L or U to fit. The engine is checked against published worked examples and a reference simulator.

Almost 700 subs and woofers from manufacturers' datasheets, each with its source, in 8, 10, 12, 15 and 18-inch sizes and more. Change any value to your own measurement, or paste the T/S table from a datasheet and Boxwright reads the labels.
