About this app

The Virtual Aboriginal Wellness App is safe, supportive, and culturally grounded mobile app designed by NADACA (Native Alcohol and Drug Abuse Counselling Association of Nova Scotia). This app helps Indigenous community members access the Virtual Aboriginal Wellness Program (VAWP) — a guided healing journey that blends Mi’kmaw cultural teachings with clinical wellness practices.

Many individuals face barriers to accessing support including distance, stigma, or busy schedules. The Virtual Aboriginal Wellness App helps remove those barriers by providing a private, accessible way to participate in a structured four-week program on your own terms.

- Confidential & Safe – Personal data is protected under strict confidentiality rules, and participation remains anonymous, so your journey stays your own.
- Daily Teachings – Receive a new session each day that combines Mi’kmaw cultural traditions, stories, and wellness practices.
- Weekly Reflections – Share your thoughts and insights in private reflections that help deepen your healing journey.
- Counsellor Check-Ins – Stay connected with support staff through guided check-ins and program feedback.
- Culturally Grounded – Access sessions created by Mi’kmaw Elders, knowledge keepers, and counsellors.

Some of the program highlights include:
- Designed with Two-Eyed Seeing: integrating Indigenous teachings with Western wellness practices.
- Supports healing on all levels: mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual.
- Content includes cultural teachings, traditional medicine, storytelling, recovery strategies, and personal wellness tools.
- Flexible: participate anytime, from anywhere.

To begin your journey, the registration process is straight forward:
- Download the app and create a secure account.
- Complete onboarding with a NADACA counsellor.
- Receive a daily session (video, story, or reflection activity).
- Complete weekly reflections to track your progress and share insights.
- Stay connected with counsellors who review reflections and offer support.

In order to sign up for this app, you must meet the following requirements:
- First Nations, Inuit, and Innu individuals, aged 18+.
- Anyone beginning their healing journey, preparing for treatment, or seeking aftercare.
- Those who want a safe, supportive way to reconnect with culture and wellness practices.

Why choose Virtual Aboriginal Wellness?
- Developed by NADACA, serving Mi’kmaw communities since 1971.
- Recognized by the Canadian Accreditation Council (Community Wellness Standards with Indigenous Designation, 2023).
- Trusted by participants and counsellors across Nova Scotia.
- Built with Indigenous artwork by Mi’kmaw artist Aaron Googoo.
- Secure and confidential, backed by modern data protection standards.

Healing is a journey — and every journey begins with one step. The Virtual Aboriginal Wellness App makes that step safe, accessible, and culturally grounded. Begin your journey today.
