About this app

One sentence a day. Trace it slowly, square by square.

Hankan Hankan ("square by square") is a copywork app built on the Korean manuscript grid — the ruled paper Korean students and writers have used for a century. A new sentence arrives every day. There is no score and no right answer. Watch the squares fill in one at a time, and let that be enough. When you finish, keep going on the same paper with today's diary entry or a piece of your own.

■ Today's sentence — one a day
· 100 sentences written and curated in-house, on the mind, on words, on the seasons, on ordinary days
· The sentence changes with the date; if today's doesn't land, swap it up to three times
· As you type, the squares fill one by one and a quiet progress count keeps you company
· When you finish, see how many days you wrote this week and how many times in all
· No streak to break. Resting is fine

■ Diary — put your day on the paper
· The date fills itself in. You only write what's on your mind
· Choose whether the date is written into the first line of the paper
· Flows straight on from copywork, on the same grid

■ Writing — for when the page is blank
· Prompt cards and spark cards speak up at random
"A short letter to yourself ten years from now" · "Write the last sentence first, then work backwards"
· Character count and sheet count update as you write
· Handy for contests and assignments that ask for an exact number of sheets

■ Paper, the way you like it
· 4 sizes — 100 (10x10), 160 (20x8), 200 (20x10), 400 (20x20) squares
· 5 colors — cream & green, white & sky, ivory & red, gray & ink, hanji & brown
· 7 fonts — Pretendard, Gowun Batang, Nanum Myeongjo, Nanum Pen Script, Gaegu, Kirang Haerang (old Hangul), Dancing Script
· Manuscript rules are handled for you: punctuation and spacing at line breaks, two Latin letters or digits per square

■ Library & sharing
· Filter by copywork, diary, or writing
· Reopen anything you saved, still laid out on the paper
· Save or share a finished sheet as an image

■ Made for you if
· You want ten quiet minutes before bed
· You bought a copywork notebook and filled three pages
· You want to keep a diary but freeze at the empty screen
· You need an exact sheet count for a contest or a class
· Your handwriting isn't pretty, but you still want the feel of copying by hand

■ Good to know
· Everything you write stays on your device. No account, nothing uploaded
· Works offline (a connection is only needed to show ads)
· A few paper colors and fonts unlock with a short ad — and if no ad is available, we unlock them anyway
· Manuscript formatting follows common Korean convention; institutions may differ, so check before you submit
· Korean and English, light and dark themes
