This app cannot measure how much data you have used or how much room is left on
your device. You type a number and it restates it in other units, nothing more.
It does not work out download times or compression ratios either.

▣ You bought a 500GB drive, and the computer says 465GB

Nothing has been lost, and nothing is being held back.

To the people selling the drive, 1GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes.
To the operating system, 1GB is 1,073,741,824 bytes, which is really a GiB.

The same two letters stand for two different numbers. That is the whole story.

■ So the decimal and binary units share one screen

Type 500, pick GB, and the GiB figure is right there.

・500 GB → 465.6612873 GiB
・1 TB → 931.3225746 GiB
・128 GB → 119.2092896 GiB

The bigger the unit, the wider the gap. At TB a drive looks about 9 percent smaller.

■ Twelve units

bit and B, which belong to neither, then
kB, MB, GB, TB, PB on the decimal side
and KiB, MiB, GiB, TiB, PiB on the binary side.

Whatever you type is listed in every other unit at once.
You never have to pick another unit and convert a second time.

■ Connection speeds too

bps, kbps, Mbps, Gbps and B/s, kB/s, MB/s.

Lines are counted in bits and files in bytes, so the two differ by eight.
A 100Mbps line delivers at most 12.5 MB/s, however good the conditions,
and a 1Gbps line at most 125 MB/s.

■ Every figure here is a defined one

1 kB is 1,000 bytes. 1 KiB is 1,024 bytes. 1 byte is 8 bits.
All of them are fixed by definition, so no source disagrees.

Results carry ten significant digits, which is enough to show that
1 GiB is exactly 1.073741824 GB, decimals and all.

■ What is not in here

No measuring of data used, no timing of a line, no checking of remaining room,
no cleaning tools, no download time estimates, no compression ratios,
no binary or hexadecimal digits.

This app only restates a number you type in a different unit.
