The intention/idea behind the app and service is good. However, there is not a very intuitive way of searching for music. You cannot browse categories. I'm an alto sax player, and there is not really popular jazz music to pick from, which is a little misleading since you have the option to select "jazz" as a category of interest when you customize your experience for instruments you play. Although given a free trial, I wish I could see what pieces/artists would be available before signing up.

Thank you for your constructive review of nkoda. We're glad to hear that you appreciate our mission, but we're sorry that you're not a fan of the app itself. Our library expands every day and we're working tirelessly to refine our search engine and the app interface, so hopefully it won't be long before our service meets your requirements!

It has the music I want (classical piano) so I was very excited to try this out. However, the interface is terrible. A classical score typically has 100+ pages. The WTC has 48 pieces - 24 preludes and fugues. There is no electronic table of contents. You cannot create your own. Suppose you memorize that the piece you are working on is on page 135. There is no way to jump there. There is a scroll bar on the right. You can't drag that scroll bar; it is display only. You can use the arrow keys to go up one/down page. It only registers when you lift from the key, not when you press down, so to go to page 135 you have to press down arrow 135 times because auto-repeat doesn't work. I have a mouse! Tough, the scroll wheel doesn't work. Page up/down? Nope. Home/end? You wish! Just one page at a time. Then there is "navigation mode". This mode shows you 2 pages at a time, with a scroll bar. Here, the behavior is the opposite as score mode. Arrow keys don't work, but now the mouse scroll wheel works and you can grab the scroll bar and quickly scroll top to bottom. Cool, right? No. The text is so small that you can't see what is on the pages. and if you have 100+ page score each tiny movement of the scrollbar goes through many pages. You can add bookmarks on this page, but since multiple pages are shown it is hard to guess which page it applies to. Great news - that bookmark is displayed on the scrollbar in score mode. Can we click on that to jump to the page? Nope. It is just there to mock you, I guess. It is also finicky to get here. On PC you can click over by the nonfunctional scrollbar. it often works. Sometimes it doesn't. The mouse doesn't change shape to denote what function is about to happen, so you care kind of clicking blind. Anyway, it is crazy to have to leave the score, manipulate a scroll bar that changes pages that you can't read, then go back to the score. Just let me use the scroll bar there, and let auto-repeat work. Give me CTRL+G to goto a page! You can click in the corners to move one page forwards/backwards. That usually works. But sometimes (I can't duplicate reliably), the annotation window is displayed. Click on the bottom right, and it acts like you clicked the left hand center (where the annotation window is). Once it appears, it stays there, and you can no longer click to change pages. So, better close that window. Ha, you wish. That big X at the top to close the window - the first click usually fails, so plan on 2-3 clicks. Search - When I signed up it asked me what instruments I display, if I am a soloist, etc. Great! So, go type "philip glass" in the search. Does it show me his piano scores? Nope, everything. Is it at least alphabetical? Nope, it seems to be in utterly random order. Can I filter? Not really. I can put "piano" in for the title and it does remove a lot of the extraneous stuff, but good luck if piano is not in the title. Let's say you want to find JS Bach Inventions. Put bach as composer, inventions in title, and yes, you get a bunch of editions. Great. And you get things like Klein Praludien, which doesn't have Invention in the title. Change invention to english to get the engish suites, and get shown the Fantasie en Ut Mineur. The music list is one of those endless scroll things. Sometimes it stops after 10 swipes or so. Are you at the end of the music? Maybe. To be sure, scroll up, and then swipe down again. Often it will go much further. Or maybe just type the exact same search in again and you'll get to scroll farther. This might all be due to slow loading - you don't get any indication that it is processing, so who really knows. Sometimes I type in a search and get a blank result. Try again and then you get music. After doing the Bach stuff above i start typing Beethoven. It gives a dropdown with his entire name and I select it. If fills in the search box, but still shows Bach's music. I put the cursor in the box, hit return, nothing. Sometimes search results clear when you clear this box, and then it works. I give up.

I've played piano for 16 years, so naturally I'm not looking for beginner sheet music. Yet for some reason, that's all I can find even after selecting the most advanced preset! Using this app on a phone is a nightmare. Why can I not use landscape mode to play? Why can't I print out sheet music? Why is something as simple as turning the page so finicky? I have to completely stop playing to turn pages. Can't recommend this service to anyone who isn't a beginner. At least there was a free trial!

Hello - thanks for your review. We have a large selection of advanced piano music. If the personalised content strips don’t suit, tell us what you’re looking for at support@nkoda.com, we’ll help you. To protect our publishing partners’ content, music can only be viewed digitally within nkoda. We’re working to bring landscape mode to mobiles.
