About this game

Knotwords is a minimal and elegant logic puzzle — with words.

The rules are simple: arrange the letters in each section so every word is valid, across and down.

Each puzzle may seem difficult at first — but like all my favorite newspaper puzzles, it gets easier as you progress. Each step guides you naturally towards the solution.

This is the kind of game I've been trying to make my whole career — I'm amazed Jack and I discovered this design. We hope you like it.

Ratings and reviews

This game is super fun and engaging. Sometimes puzzles take less than 30 seconds and then others I come back to multiple times. 3 star rating because the user interface is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow! Sometimes I just set my phone down and let it finish processing whatever is happening in the background. I will finish a puzzle and then just wait for the menu animation to resolve so I can click the "Done" button. Pixel 8 Pro, by the way. Don't know what I'm waiting for! Please optimize this app!

Edit: Game is very fun as a kind of 'word Sudoku'. Could be 5 starts but a few unpolished things that just hold the overall experience back. This game uses a lot of battery when it runs for some reason. And even on a Pixel 8 Pro, the game menus and other animations will lag. Makes me wonder if things are properly being offloaded to the GPU for rendering or the engine used is just way behind optimization. If these things can be addressed this could be a 5 star game.

This app is wonderful, I love the puzzles. BUT this is the only place I could find for the following bug report: lately I think it's forgetting how many hints I should have, every time I open it I'm at 4/6 regardless of the prior number. Also I remember one puzzle that was "3 hints used - at max hints!" which should be impossible. I think the "progress saved by Google Play Games" may have something to do with it. Anyway, the game's still very playable and good.
