The sciences of the Quran are vast and numerous. Furthermore, it is not permissible to speak about the reasons for the revelation of the Book except through narration and hearing from those who witnessed the revelation and were aware of the reasons.

This book fulfills that need, providing a central resource for those seeking knowledge and those discussing the revelation of the Quran. It allows them to discern the truth, avoiding obfuscation and falsehood, and to appreciate its reliability after understanding its nature. The author began by discussing the principles of revelation and the manner in which the Quran was initially revealed to the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), including Gabriel's role in delivering the revelation, and by briefly outlining the circumstances. He then moved to the core of the subject: a detailed explanation of the reason for the revelation of each verse for which a specific, transmitted reason has been narrated.

Author: Al-Wahidi (d. 468 AH/1076 CE), Ali ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ali al-Wahidi, al-Naysaburi, al-Shafi'i (Abu al-Hasan), a commentator, grammarian, linguist, jurist, poet, and historian. He was originally from Sawa and belonged to a family of merchants. He died in Nishapur in Jumada al-Thani, having reached an advanced age. Among his works are: "Al-Basit," a commentary on the Quran in approximately 16 volumes; "Al-Maghazi" (The Campaigns); "Sharh Diwan al-Mutanabbi" (Commentary on the Diwan of al-Mutanabbi); "Al-Ighrab fi al-I'rab" (The Eloquence in Grammar); and "Nafi al-Tahrif 'an al-Qur'an al-Sharif" (Refutation of Distortion in the Noble Qur'an).

I found what I was looking for in it: a concise and useful guide. It leads you to what you are searching for. What I didn't like was the lack of separation between the surahs, which made searching for a specific verse more difficult.

I got the book from my father's library; it seems to be an old copy from Dar Al-Fikr. It follows the chapters from Surah Al-Baqarah to Surah Al-Mu'awwidhatayn, but it doesn't mention all the reasons for the revelation of each chapter.
