The FishAdapt is a free mobile application designed to engage for the GCP/MYA/020/LDF (FishAdapt Project) http://www.fao.org/in-action/fishadapt/en/ . The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) are implementing the project “FishAdapt: Strengthening the adaptive capacity and resilience of fisheries and aquaculture-dependent livelihoods in Myanmar” with funding from the Least Developed Countries Fund (LDCF) of the Global Environment Facility (GEF). Together with its main partner, the project aims to assist the government to enable inland and coastal fishery and aquaculture stakeholders to adapt to climate change by understanding and reducing their vulnerabilities, planning for and piloting new practices and technologies, and scaling up the results by sharing information. This application doesn’t represent the FAO Myanmar or Myanmar government entity.
Component 4 of the project, focuses on the facilitation of capacity development for different stakeholders at different levels. This capacity strengthening is a key element of the Project’s overall strategy on increasing the resilience of the fisheries and aquaculture sub-sectors and dependent communities. To enhance this facilitation, the project is developing a mobile application (Android based) to implement tele-training opportunities and the P2P sharing information platform, designed to facilitate capacity building and sharing of good practices and lessons learned amongst project’ stakeholders at community level.
This mobile application development will provide opportunity to all the project beneficiaries to interchange information and experiences in what refers to their involvement and participation in the project activities and related technical information. This mobile app – as a knowledge sharing platform - once tested at project level, will be transferred to the responsible entity (together with the project website) and could be scaled up to national level. The transferring of these platforms will occur by the end of the project as part of the foreseen outputs / deliverables.
Via this mobile app, the targeted fishing and aquaculture communities will have access to:
a) Tele – training and quizzes -: basic professional skills such as safety – at – sea and post – harvesting training and various type of trainings will be delivered at the community level through simple illustrated videos. The Project will issue the completion certificate after getting the designated score in the quizzes of the respective courses.
b) Group Chat Feature - It will allow the users of the mobile application i.e. the stakeholders at all levels to share the knowledge they gained from FishAdapt Project and to discuss about the challenges they (might) have faced in their communities that are related to climate change to fisheries and aquaculture sector, and including other cross – cutting areas such as gender roles in the sector
c) Resource Maps and Community Based Resource Management Plans: this initiative will enable the project stakeholders to have open access to this content on their mobile phones, from anywhere and at any time.
