System Requirements
Ibex uses your phone's barometric pressure sensor to calculate elevation. Not all phones have this sensor. You can still load, display, and replay existing recordings without it, but you won't receive real-time information during your climb.
Accuracy
Barometric pressure changes with elevation but also drifts due to weather, which decreases precision over extended periods. GPS is drift-free but has typical vertical accuracy of only ±15 meters (45 feet), making it unsuitable for precise climbing elevation tracking.
Pressure sensors measure straight-up elevation, not route distance. Because route angles vary and are rarely known exactly, Ibex estimates total distance using an adjustable angle setting. A basic measurement tool is included to help estimate the angle.
