About this app

Ibex is your intelligent climbing companion that transforms your phone into a sophisticated tracking device. Keep your focus on the climb while Ibex monitors your progress, alerts you to rope's end, and captures every pitch, rappel, and rest.

Real-Time Intelligence

Stay informed without looking at your phone. Ibex speaks your stats through earbuds or speakers, keeping your hands free for climbing:
• Current pitch distance and rope remaining
• Total distance, pitches, and time climbing and rappelling
• Remaining distance and pitches to summit
• Rope-end warning alerts before you run out of rope*
• Calories burned and average climbing speed

Cloud-Connected & Social

Access your climbing data everywhere you need it:
• Optional cloud sync across all your devices
• Sign in with Google or email
• Upload directly to Strava
• Share sessions with the climbing community
• Privacy controls to keep routes private

Smart Tracking

Let Ibex do the heavy lifting:
• Automatically detects climbing, rappelling, and resting
• Optimized modes for single and multi-pitch routes
• Bluetooth button support for hands-free operation
• Detailed activity logs with interactive charts
• Replay and analyze your past climbs

Post-Climb Refinement

Perfect your records after the send:
• Add route names, grades, and details
• Edit recordings (trim, adjust angles, modify rests)

Built for Climbers

• Modern Material Design 3 interface
• Imperial and metric units
• 100% free with no ads
• Works on Android 8.0 and newer

System Requirements

Ibex uses your phone's barometric pressure sensor to calculate elevation. Not all phones have this sensor. You can still load, display, and replay existing recordings without it, but you won't receive real-time information during your climb.

Accuracy

Barometric pressure changes with elevation but also drifts due to weather, which decreases precision over extended periods. GPS is drift-free but has typical vertical accuracy of only ±15 meters (45 feet), making it unsuitable for precise climbing elevation tracking.

Pressure sensors measure straight-up elevation, not route distance. Because route angles vary and are rarely known exactly, Ibex estimates total distance using an adjustable angle setting. A basic measurement tool is included to help estimate the angle.

*Never rely on any app to keep you safe! Always be aware of your situation while climbing.
