About this app

## Ibex – Smart Climbing Tracker

Ibex turns your phone into a smart climbing tracker. Keep your focus on the climb while it tracks your progress, alerts you to rope's end, and captures every pitch, rappel, and rest.

Your Route at a Glance

The climb screen is one instrument panel, readable at arm's length:
• Your route drawn as a profile—pitches climbed, and what's left
• Belays and rappel stations marked, your height moving across them
• Large labelled figures, so you never hunt for the number you want
• Stop recording and it re-scopes to the whole session

Real-Time Intelligence

Stay hands-free—Ibex speaks your stats through earbuds or your phone:
• Current pitch distance and rope remaining
• Total distance, pitches, and time climbing and rappelling
• Remaining distance and pitches to summit
• Rope-end warning alerts before you run out of rope*

Smart Tracking

Let Ibex do the heavy lifting:
• Automatically detects climbing, rappelling, and resting
• Track approach hikes: effort, distance, and speed
• Bluetooth button support for hands-free control
• Detailed activity logs with interactive charts
• Sun & Moon: daylight left, sunset time, and moon illumination
• Link photos and videos directly to your climbs
• Replay and analyze your past climbs

In-App Map

See where you climbed on a built-in map:
• Street and satellite imagery, with a speed-colored track
• Tap any segment or marker for on-map readouts
• Show markers per activity, with or without the line
• Multi-pitch tracks cleaned against your belay positions
• Or export your track to map software and Google Earth

Planning, Hydration & Heat

Plan your session before you go, review it after:
• Plan Session: estimate total session time, plus water and electrolytes
• Heat-risk readout from temperature, humidity, sun, cloud, and wind
• Heat-stress warning at the start of hot sessions

Fitness & Performance Insights

The effort behind the send (heart rate monitor or Health Connect):
• Heart rate tracking via BLE chest straps and standard monitors
• Cardio Report: HR zones, training load, and recovery per session
• Speed Report: climbing speed by grade, discipline, and style
• Import heart rate from Health Connect (Garmin, Fitbit, Polar…)
• More accurate calories from your actual heart rate

Cloud-Connected & Social

Access your data everywhere:
• Optional cloud sync across your devices
• Upload directly to Strava and your calendar
• Share sessions, or create embeddable links to post online
• Privacy controls to keep routes private

Precision Elevation Tracking

Built for climbing:
• High-resolution barometric elevation tracking
• Multiple drift-compensation methods (optional RuuviTag)
• GPS used only where it helps—not for elevation

Post-Climb Refinement & Route Labeling (Open Beta)

Perfect and label your sessions after the send:
• Look up known routes (OpenBeta and Ibex's growing database)
• Add route names, grades, pitch counts and notes to your session
• Edit recordings: trim, modify rests, merge or split pitches

Built for Climbers

• Imperial and metric units
• Light and dark themes, with auto-switch after dark
• 100% free with no ads

System Requirements

Ibex needs your phone's barometric pressure sensor to calculate elevation. Without it you can still load and replay community sessions, but can't record your own.

Optional: Bluetooth buttons (Flic), BLE heart rate monitors, Health Connect wearables, and external pressure sensors (RuuviTag) for drift compensation.

Accuracy

Barometric pressure tracks elevation but drifts with weather; Ibex minimizes this with filtering, calibration, and optional external references. GPS is accurate only to ±15 m (45 ft) vertically, so it isn't used for elevation. Pressure measures gain, not distance, so distance comes from an adjustable angle.

*Never rely on any app to keep you safe. Always be aware of your situation while climbing.*

What’s new

• Climb screen draws your route as a profile — climbs and rappels side by side, with belays and stations
• Laps on one route stack up, so the day's total height shows
• Rope left is front and centre, with its reach drawn on the route
• A red line marks where the rope no longer lowers you
• Big figures you can read at arm's length on the wall
• Stop recording and see the session: time, climbed, rappelled, heart rate and light left
• Straighter multi-pitch tracks, anchored to your belays
