## Ibex – Smart Climbing Tracker
Ibex is your intelligent climbing companion that transforms your phone into a sophisticated tracking device. Keep your focus on the climb while Ibex monitors your progress, alerts you to rope’s end, and captures every pitch, rappel, and rest.
Real-Time Intelligence
Stay informed without looking at your phone. Ibex speaks your stats through earbuds or speakers, keeping your hands free for climbing:
• Current pitch distance and rope remaining
• Total distance, pitches, and time climbing and rappelling
• Remaining distance and pitches to summit
• Rope-end warning alerts before you run out of rope*
• Calories burned and average climbing speed
Cloud-Connected & Social
Access your climbing data everywhere you need it:
• Optional cloud sync across all your devices
• Sign in with Google or email
• Upload directly to Strava
• Share sessions with the climbing community
• Privacy controls to keep routes private
Smart Tracking
Let Ibex do the heavy lifting:
• Automatically detects climbing, rappelling, and resting
• Optimized modes for single- and multi-pitch routes
• Bluetooth button support for hands-free operation
• Detailed activity logs with interactive charts
• Replay and analyze your past climbs
Precision Elevation Tracking
Built for climbing, not hiking:
• High-resolution barometric elevation tracking
• Smart smoothing to reduce noise
• Multiple drift-compensation methods, including optional RuuviTag support
• GPS used only where it helps—not for elevation
Health & Performance Insights
Understand the effort behind the send:
• Heart rate tracking via BLE chest straps and other standard heart rate monitors
• Import heart rate from Health Connect—use data from Garmin, Samsung Health, Fitbit, Polar, and other fitness apps
• Export climbing sessions to Health Connect and Strava
• Heart rate overlays alongside elevation, pitch, and time data
• More accurate calorie estimates based on your actual heart rate
Post-Climb Refinement & Route Labeling (Open Beta)
Perfect and label your sessions after the send:
• Look up known routes during post-climb editing (OpenBeta)
• Add route names, grades, pitch counts and notes to your session
• Edit recordings (trim, adjust angles, modify rests)
• Merge, split, or clean up pitches for accurate logs
Built for Climbers
• Imperial and metric units
• 100% free with no ads
• Works on Android 8.0 and newer
System Requirements
Ibex uses your phone’s barometric pressure sensor to calculate elevation. Not all phones have this sensor. You can still load, display, and replay existing sessions without it, but you won’t receive real-time information during your climb.
Optional external devices:
• Bluetooth buttons for hands-free voice reports and actions
• BLE heart rate monitors, including chest straps
• Health Connect–compatible wearables and fitness apps
• External pressure sensors (such as RuuviTag) for drift compensation
Accuracy
Barometric pressure changes with elevation but also drifts due to weather, which reduces precision over extended periods. Ibex minimizes this through filtering, calibration, and optional external pressure references.
GPS is drift-free but has typical vertical accuracy of only ±15 meters (45 feet), making it unsuitable for precise climbing elevation tracking on its own.
Pressure sensors measure vertical elevation, not route distance. Because climbing angles vary and are rarely known exactly, Ibex estimates total distance using an adjustable angle setting. A built-in angle measurement tool helps dial this in.
*Never rely on any app to keep you safe. Always be aware of your situation while climbing.*
