About this app

Most maps were built for cities where every street has a name and every house has a number. That's not Africa. Oolel Maps is built for the cities we actually live in — where an address sounds like "the third house past the blue gate, near the mosque" and that's the only thing that gets a taxi to your door.

What you can do with it:

Find a place even when there's no street name. Search by landmark, by neighborhood, by the name a friend gave you. Save your home with a description a stranger could actually use.

Get directions for driving, walking, or cycling. The voice guidance speaks French, Arabic, and English. The map flips properly for Arabic.

Plan a trip on public transit. Bus and minibus routes, fares, schedules, and live alerts when something changes.

Download a whole city before you travel. Navigate without data, without worrying about your bundle running out mid-trip.

Add what's missing. If your street isn't on the map, add it. If a new shop opens in your neighborhood, tag it. Verified contributions stay on the map for everyone.

List your business. Free listing, your hours, your photos, a phone number people can actually reach.

About the name: "Oolel" is Pulaar for "echo" — because an address is just a voice that carries, a way to be heard and to be found. Without one, you can't receive mail, register a business, or get an ambulance to your door. We're working on that.
