Look closer at the small world around you. Insect Scanner turns a photo into a clear starting point for researching insects and arachnids, then helps you keep every observation organized in a private field journal.

SCAN FROM YOUR CAMERA OR GALLERY

Photograph a subject when you find it, or choose an existing image from your gallery. The app sends the selected photo for AI analysis only after you start a scan. A useful photo should be well lit, in focus and large enough to show distinguishing features.

Each completed scan provides a likely identification, the visible details supporting it, alternative possibilities and practical suggestions for what to photograph next. The explanation helps you understand which visible clues matter instead of receiving only a name.

RESEARCH WITH BETTER VISUAL CLUES

When a first photo does not show enough information, the result suggests another angle, label, marking or detail to capture. This makes Insect Scanner useful for repeat observations and for comparing similar-looking insects and arachnids.

AI results are a research starting point. They may change when you provide a clearer photo or reveal a detail hidden in the first image.

BUILD YOUR PRIVATE FIELD JOURNAL

Save discoveries directly on your device and return to them later. Search the collection, mark favorites and open any saved result to review its visible evidence and alternatives. Share a formatted text report through the apps on your device when you choose.

The Habitat Notes provides dedicated fields for habitat, an optional location and observed behavior. These notes preserve the context around a discovery without requiring an account.

SCANNING AND SERVICE LIMITS

Internet access is required for AI identification. Scanning includes up to 30 scans per installation per UTC day and remains subject to shared-network and service limits. Camera and photo-picker availability depends on your Android device.

Results depend on the quality and content of the selected photo. Blurred, distant, obstructed or poorly lit subjects may produce a broad match or an incorrect result.

USE RESULTS RESPONSIBLY

Insects and arachnids can be difficult to distinguish from a single image. Lighting, life stage, angle and closely related species can affect the result. Never use the app to decide bite treatment or to guarantee that a species is harmless.

When accuracy matters, compare the result with reliable reference material or an appropriate specialist. The app supports exploration, cataloguing and visual research; it cannot replace hands-on examination or professional judgment.

PRIVACY AND LOCAL CONTROL

Selected photos are sent through the app's backend to AI providers for analysis. The backend does not retain photos. Saved photos, generated results, favorites, checklist entries and notes remain in the app's private device storage.

Erase locally saved data from Studio or remove it by uninstalling the app. Android app backup is disabled. A shared discovery leaves the app only when you explicitly use Share and select a destination.

If you report an AI result, the app sends the selected report category, generated result text, model name, app identifier and result identifier for review. The report does not include your photo or private notes.
