OurVoteToday Inc. is a political utility and research company offering event marketing services and social research tools to Democratic candidates, progressive causes, and the Party. The software-as-a-service (SaaS) mobile app provides candidates, particularly those running down-ballot, a free and easy way to introduce themselves to voters.

The service eases the task of advertising campaign events, obtaining voter evaluations, while providing the Party with a wealth of demographic and political information on candidates at relevant geolocations. The combination of these services is unavailable in the marketplace. OurVoteToday addresses this shortcoming.

Down-ballot candidates are crucial to the Party’s strength and resilience. Nonetheless, convincing someone to run for a local office is difficult, as reflected in the majority of the nation’s down-ballot races between 2020 and 2024 that went uncontested. Winning down-ballot races is crucial to the Party’s long-term success, and the motivation behind the creation of OurVoteToday’s service.

More than half a million elected offices in the United States are down-ballot races. In most states, the majority of these races go uncontested.

In 2024, 61% of city and 82% of county races were uncontested, with Democrats being the biggest no-shows.

Why it matters:

To the nation: Uncontested races erode accountability, discourage voter participation, and limit the diversity of representation, with incumbents less motivated to deal with constituents, resulting in political extremes shaping policies regarding schools, transit, criminal justice, and healthcare.
