Two major issues: there is at least one ad before any show that can't be skipped. I'd expect that from a for-profit network but not from PBS. Second issue: I cannot play any content from my Galaxy S8. it just buffers forever. Video plays on my Nvidia SHIELD just fine... after the requisite unskippable ad about another PBS show I don't want to watch. is settle for just making the ads skippable! I mean, I'm a donor anyway, and I'll find content if I want it.
I've only had this a few minutes and already have suggestions. 1) Have separate lists for shows non-donors and donors can watch. Make this distinction very clear on the first page. Not that I was surprised that being a donor was mandatory for some shows, just ticked off to click on a show only to find that out. 2) When I click on a show in Science and Nature, or any genre, to see its info please let me use the back button to go back to the genre where I was and --not-- way back to the very beginning of the genre list. If not for these two issues I'd have given 5 stars.
Why is skipping still such a major problem? I happily donate to PBS, I believe in your content, but if you're going to offer a streaming app as a perk, you should make sure it's working properly and fix it when its not. The app looks great and on occasion, works. But lately whether I use the app on my phone or my tv, videos are either not available for playback or they constantly skip back or ahead a couple seconds. Literally constantly. Please fix it!
I used to enjoy this app more, but now it doesn't work with Chromecast very well. The video will skip around several times through an episode, either moving backwards a few seconds or even worse, forward. Rewinding to fix this is a huge hassle as there is no easy way to do that. It doesn't remember where you were on an episode or a season, and the captions are always cut off on the side. Therefore, I don't use it much anymore.
Good content, but lacking in functionality. For example, it doesn't keep your place if you stop in the middle of a show, then log off. You have to find your place again when you come back. Also, no fast forward or rewind settings, just the play bar. And, if you watch a series like Downton Abbey, you can't sort by season. Only option is to scroll through all episodes to find your spot.
Not going to complain about the paid access, except that you should be able to filter compass-only shows out. It's really hard to find episodes you can watch if you're not a donor, as 90% is either compass or previews/clips. Same problem on desktop website.
