Very nice to be able to watch PBS shows. Updates have improved stability to where it's possible to watch videos consistently now, unlike with earlier versions. And the stability has been further improved. But the Android system Smart Manager still complains it's slowing things down and draining the battery too much, so it has to be specially shut down regularly.
Has the potential to be a great app, especially with the Chromecast support! I love the ability to get PBS content on demand, but as a video player, still has some functionality gaps that hold it back, such as the ability to control where you are in a video in certain situations. Also, the buffering banner is overly prominent, popping up over the video even when there are no noticeable lags.
App is well-designed & easy to use. I LOVE that it's Chromecast compatible, a feature not always available even on apps from *premium* channels (i.e. Cinemax). My only improvement request is for better organization within each show. Within Masterpiece, for example, rather than simply listing all available episodes, group them according to their shows (e.g. Poldark, Mercy Street, etc).
Seems to stream pretty well to Chromcast, but while it's playing, you see a brief popup on the screen several times a minute, showing progress. It only shows for a split second but it gets annoying. It is very problematic when there are subtitles and this pops up and blocks what you're supposed to read. With no way to easily jump back you miss dialogue.
Fix flashing pause screen! - when I saw "bug fixes" I thought YES they fixed it, but nope. I can watch PBS shows by casting directly from the webpage on my phone (no flickering priblem).. what's the point of an app if it's not better than or equal to the mobile website??
Stinks when casting. Constantly clips, buffers, etc. Cannot control from phone once show starts. CNNOT stop casting. Locks up. Poorly executed app.
