In 1993, a group of Finnish programmers, artists, and musicians, most still in their teens, made a 386 do things nobody believed a 386 could do."

This is that demo, rebuilt to run natively on your phone, tablet or TV.

NOT A VIDEO. NOT AN EMULATOR.

Every one of the twenty parts has been reimplemented from Future Crew's own source code, which they released publicly in 2013. The vector meshes are the original vertex data. The effects follow the original algorithms, down to the lookup tables and fixed-point tricks that made them fast enough in the first place. The picture is the original 320x200 field, shown at its true 4:3 shape exactly as a period CRT displayed it.

The soundtrack is rendered from Future Crew's own tracker modules, and the demo stays welded to it the way the original did: by counting tracker rows rather than seconds. Nothing drifts, however fast or slow your device runs.

LIVE COMMENTARY

Sixteen minutes of effects are not much use if their cleverness stays invisible. Tap the info button and a commentary track runs beside the demo, explaining each part as it arrives: what you are looking at, how it was done on hardware with no GPU and no floating point, and why it stopped people in their tracks in 1993.

The app does not request internet permission, so it cannot send anything
anywhere even if it wanted to. Everything it needs is in the download.
