About this app
Lamplight is a journal that lives on your phone and nowhere else.
There is no account. There is no server. There is no sign-in, no sync, no "cloud", and no company waiting to be bought. You open it, you write, and what you wrote stays where you put it.
It does not ask for the internet — and that is not a promise, it is a fact you can check. Android lists every permission an app declares. Lamplight declares five: the microphone for voice notes, two for fingerprint unlock, notifications for the reminder, and one to re-arm that reminder after the phone restarts. INTERNET is not among them. An app without that permission cannot open a network connection, whatever its code says and whoever wrote it.
WHAT IT IS FOR
Days, not files. Everything you keep is filed by the day it happened on: what you wrote, the photographs, the videos, the voice notes, the documents. Swipe between days. Search by a date, a word, a filename, or a folder — "16 March 2006" and "yesterday" both work.
Write, or speak, or point a camera. Voice notes are written down on the phone itself; nothing is sent anywhere to be transcribed.
Mark the ones that mattered, and read them back from an empty search box.
Give a day a name. File an entry into a folder without moving it off its day.
HOW IT IS KEPT
Everything is encrypted on the device with XChaCha20-Poly1305 and a key derived from your passcode with Argon2id. Locked when you leave, locked when it sits idle, and blank in the recent-apps list unless you turn that off yourself. There is a twelve-word recovery phrase, written down once, in case the passcode goes.
We are not asking you to trust us, because designing it this way means we cannot read your notes even if we wanted to. There is nowhere for them to go.
A WAY OUT, AND A WAY IN
Your journal is not a hostage. Readable copy writes the whole thing out as plain Markdown plus your original files, into a folder you choose — openable in any text editor, forever, with or without this app. Bring in an old journal reads a folder of dated text files back in.
Backups are one file, locked with your passcode. Keep it on a cloud drive if you like; it is unreadable without you.

English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Hindi, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, with the interface mirrored for Arabic. Write in any script in any of them.

Automatic backup now works properly. If it cannot replace your existing backup file, it tells you why instead of failing quietly.
