As odd as it sounds, one of the advantages of this game is that it hasn't been updated in years. It also does not require a connection to a server, so it still works in zero signal areas. You can slowly progress over time, and there aren't updates that shove forced ads or new heroes. The gameplay itself is solid, as long as you are okay with a slow progression pace (or are willing to pay).

If you're looking for a Match 3 with lots of content, cute art, & a steady (but slow) progression curve, Match Land is it. I've been playing for about 6 months now, and am still checking it multiple times a day. I've got 2 more zones in the Light World & 4 more zones in the Dark World to complete, & a slew of characters I haven't unlocked yet (but with the rate of progress, not sure if I will?). Agree with other reviews that character progression is a bit of a slog.

I hate that this game is so addicting. The gameplay is engaging and addicting, and I am engaged in upgrading my heroes/monsters as well. I feel like I've gotten too far in the game to put it down, so although I agree with the reviews that grinding for new characters takes too long, with my fully upgraded current party the difficulty level has rarely been a problem for me anyway. Not a perfect game, but fun. Also I can't count the amount of times I watched ads for extra energy lmao.
