How is Body Mass Index (BMI) Calculated?
BMI = Weight (kg) / height in meters squared
For a person weighing 85 kg and 1.78 meters tall, the calculation is as follows:
1.78 x 1.78 = 3.16
85 / 3.16 = 26.8
BMI = 26.8
According to the World Health Organization reference range, values between 18.5 and 24.99 are considered normal.
A BMI value above 25 is considered overweight, above 30 obese, and above 40 morbidly obese.
