About this app

Scripture Habit - Primer is a reading app for young children, based on Vicki Lynn Rasmussen's book, "Head Start with the Book of Mormon."

Using real verses from the Book of Mormon, children learn to recognize letters and sight words through a simple, repeatable routine: say a letter or word, with gentle voice feedback, trace it with a finger, then find it in a real scripture verse. Correct answers are celebrated with a short animation and sound.

Each letter or word is gamified across daily sittings until it's truly learned, with occasional reviews, to help it stay in a young reader's memory.

Features:

- Two learning tracks: the letters of the alphabet and the 50 most common words found in the Book of Mormon, many of which are sight words

- Finger-tracing practice with adjustable difficulty

- Say-it-aloud practice with speech recognition

- Seek-and-find the letter or word in real scripture text

- Multiple reader profiles for families with more than one child

- Progress tracking for each child

- Parent-adjustable settings for narration, tracing sensitivity, and speech strictness

This app has no ads, no in-app purchases, and no account or sign-in required.

What’s new

Lessons now unlock as your child earns them. Only the first two are open to start, and each one opens the next after three days of practice - so no more than five are ever on the go at once.

Once a word has been practiced enough, the app shows it on its own and asks your child to say it from memory. Getting that right is what marks a word truly learned.

Plus an optional "Review what you've learned" practice for mastered words - just for fun.
