About this app

Ads not loading? Stuck on a "Watch ad to continue" button that does nothing, or a rewarded video that won't start? "Why Can't I Watch Ads?" helps you figure out what to check — by trying to load an ad on your phone right now.

How it works:

1. Tap one button.
2. The app tries to play a real rewarded ad on your phone. If it plays, your phone CAN load ads from at least one network — the app you were having trouble with is probably just having a bad moment.
3. If the ad doesn't play, the app quietly checks a few common things on your phone and tells you, in plain English, what's worth looking at.

Things we know how to check:

• You're offline, or stuck on a hotel Wi-Fi sign-in page
• An ad-blocker or content-filter app is filtering your traffic
• Your phone's Private DNS is set to a service that often blocks ads
• A VPN is making your connection look like it's coming from another country
• Google Play Services is missing or out of date
• Android System WebView — the part of Android that draws most ads — is disabled or out of date
• Your network is blocking the websites ad networks use
• Personalised ads are turned off in your settings

You'll see up to three plain-English findings, each with a button that opens the right Settings screen so you can try the fix.

How we talk about findings:

We're careful not to pronounce a verdict. Even when we're pretty sure, we'll say "this is a good first thing to check." Diagnosing what's wrong on someone else's phone, from the outside, is hard — we'd rather suggest something worth trying than tell you we know.

Honest about how this works:

• Step one is a real Google AdMob rewarded ad. You can dismiss it whenever you like.
• If the ad fails — including because something on your phone blocked AdMob itself — the local check kicks in.
• We don't run a backend. No analytics service of our own. No crash reporter. The check runs on your phone and forgets the result when you close the app.
• AdMob collects what AdMob collects (advertising ID, approximate location via IP, ad interaction data). You can reset or opt out anytime in Settings → Privacy → Ads.

Designed for non-technical Android users who just want their game's "watch ad to continue" button to actually work — and for the developers trying to help them.

What’s new

1.1.0 — closing a video ad early now asks instead of guessing.

• "How did that ad end?" — say it froze and we diagnose it; say you closed it and we call it working. Both are the same signal from the ad SDK, so guessing got one of them badly wrong.
• Results screen: added "Check video ads instead" and "Start over" — a failed banner check could only repeat itself before.

Please DO NOT tap the ads — self-clicks risk the AdMob account.
