May be for the level of rally events that have tighter time constraints, for the more experienced, or the more "Go! Go! Go!" rally👍. Yet it lacks items like easy change of speed class if desired or even needed due to the conditions. As in it will not (that I can find) allow easy downward CAS or group/class changes due to conditions like manned checkpoints will. So scoring can get complications and teams more points. You simply need to decide if that's your kind of rally beforehand.

Fair comment. Finger Lakes Region is unique in that they allow entrants to drop down in speed class at any point in the rally. Another region (Detroit) has taken a different approach. They have preplanned emergency speeds at 2 and 4 mph lower than the original speeds. This approach was used successfully on the Son of SNO Drift rally in January 2025.

It is not an exaggeration to say the Richta Competitor app, and the companion Scoreboard and Rallymaster apps, have saved Road Rally as a sport. The app is simple, easy to use, and eliminates much of the personnel demand of hosting a Road Rally. And they enable checkpoints in places otherwise not feasible with a staffed checkpoint.
