About this app

This app organizes the vast and varied library of Rick Steves’ audio content into geographic-specific playlists so that travelers can enjoy ready access to the information that relates specifically to their travel plans. Many tracks provide general cultural and sightseeing information gleaned from his public radio program, Travel with Rick Steves. Other tracks are self-guided tours to great sights and historic walks. While we travel there’s lots of down time, and this application can both entertain and teach. Rick Steves Audio Europe will hopefully make your European travels more meaningful and more fun.

Features:

• The app downloads and stores audio files on your device. No Wi-Fi or cellphone connection is required to listen. (You will need a connection if you choose to add audio tracks later.)
• Handy maps (PDF) that complement the self-guided audio tours can be viewed on your device.
• The audio content originates from Rick Steves guidebooks and the Travel with Rick Steves public radio program. Self-guided tours are excerpted from Rick Steves country and city guidebooks.
• Rick Steves Audio Europe is a work in progress. New audio tracks will be added and existing tracks updated as necessary.

Ratings and reviews

Absolutely phenomenal app. We just got back from a week trip in Rome, and we used this app for all of our tours. It was way cheaper to just get the basic tickets for entry into sites (like the Colosseum, Pantheon, Vatican, etc) and then listen to Rick via headphones. You can go at your own pace and pause if needed. The amount of info was perfect- not too much and not too little. HIGHLY recommend. Pro tip- get Bluetooth earbuds, you and someone else can each listen at the same time!!

This app is great and but could use a little TLC. My wife and I use it to get a toe hold in whatever country we are visiting but it is showing its age - especially the Android version. For example, it does not play well with bluetooth controls, it will often need to be force closed when not in use, and bluetooth audio can crackle and skip, etc. Still a great service that pretty much unrivaled.

the content is great, 10/10, but the app freezes or the audio stops if you try to do too much else on your phone (like taking pictures, which you tend to do a lot of during these tours). the audio playback can only be controlled in the app, there's no way to use headphone controls or even the playback notification banner.
