Yanig is an earthquake awareness and preparedness app created to help more Filipinos discover and check Google’s built-in Android Earthquake Alerts.

Many Android users may already have this safety feature on their phones but do not know where to find it, how to check it, or why it matters. Yanig makes this easier to understand and easier to share with families, schools, barangays, offices, organizations, and local communities.

IMPORTANT: Yanig does not detect earthquakes and does not send earthquake alerts. Supported alerts are generated by Google’s Android Earthquake Alerts system.

EARTHQUAKE ALERT AWARENESS

Yanig guides users to the earthquake alert setting available on supported Android devices.

Its goal is to:
• Help more people know that Android Earthquake Alerts exist
• Show users where to find the setting
• Encourage families to check one another’s phones
• Remind users to re-check after updates, resets, or device changes
• Support earthquake-awareness activities in schools, barangays, offices, and communities

Yanig can be used during safety orientations, family preparedness discussions, and community disaster-preparedness campaigns.

GUIDED DEVICE SETUP

Yanig provides guides for Samsung, Xiaomi / Redmi / POCO, OPPO, vivo, realme, Infinix, Tecno, Motorola, Google Pixel, Huawei / Honor, and other Android devices.

The app can detect the phone brand and show a relevant guide. Users can also choose another guide manually.

ONE-TAP SETTINGS ACCESS

Yanig attempts to open the most relevant Android Settings screen available on the device. Depending on the phone, it may open or guide users through Earthquake Alerts, Safety & emergency, Location settings, main Android Settings, or written instructions.

Yanig also tells users which Settings screen was opened.

SELF-REPORTED STATUS AND REMINDERS

Yanig cannot read or verify whether the earthquake alert setting is currently enabled.

Users report what they found:

The answer and check date can be stored locally. Users may choose a 30, 60, or 90-day reminder to check again.

RECENT EARTHQUAKES

Yanig includes recent earthquake information for the Philippines using USGS data.

Features include:
• Interactive earthquake map
• Magnitude filters from M1+ to M6+
• Last 24 hours, 7 days, or 30 days
• Magnitude, location, depth, date, and time
• Distance from the selected province
• Scrollable earthquake list
• Offline access to the latest downloaded earthquake data

Offline preparedness tools include:
• 14-item go-bag checklist
• Family emergency plan
• Meeting point and emergency contact notes
• Drop, Cover, and Hold On quick reference
• Emergency hotline shortcuts

PRIVACY-FIRST

Yanig does not require an account and is designed with no advertisements, no analytics SDK, no developer cloud account database, and no location permission.

Users select their province manually. Saved preferences, preparedness information, reminders, and self-reported checks are stored locally and can be viewed or deleted by the user.

SUPPORTED LANGUAGES

Yanig supports English, Tagalog, Cebuano, Ilocano, Hiligaynon, Bikol, and Waray.

• Yanig does not detect earthquakes.
• Yanig does not generate or send Google’s earthquake alerts.
• Yanig cannot verify whether the Android earthquake alert setting is enabled.
• Earthquake alerts are not guaranteed and may arrive before, during, or after shaking begins.
• Never rely on a mobile notification as your only source of earthquake safety information.
