Dropple puts your phone and your computer on one list. Send a photo from your phone and it's on your Mac or PC a moment later; drop a file on your computer and it's on your phone. Text you send lands on the computer's clipboard, ready to paste.
It works like AirDrop for Windows (and for Mac), with an Android phone, over your own Wi-Fi. No account, no cloud, no cables.
YOU NEED DROPPLE ON YOUR COMPUTER
This app is the Android half of Dropple. Install the free Dropple app on a Mac or Windows PC first, from scannertechs.com/apps/dropple/. Then put the phone on the same Wi-Fi, open Dropple on the computer, choose Connect a Phone and scan the code it shows. That's the only setup.
WHAT IT DOES
• One shared list of everything sent between this phone and your computer, with photo thumbnails
• Send photos, videos, files and links from any app's share sheet, or with the + button
• Type a message and it arrives on your computer's clipboard
• Preview, download or share anything your computer sent; photos open in Dropple's own viewer
• Downloads go to Pictures, Movies or Downloads, in a Dropple folder
• Stays connected in the background and tells you when something arrives, even with Dropple closed
• Optionally saves everything that arrives, on its own
• Finds your computer again when its address on the network changes
PRIVATE BY DESIGN
Files and text go straight from your phone to your own computer over your local network, encrypted, and trusted only for the computer you paired with. Nothing goes through our servers or any cloud. No account, no ads, no tracking. The phone app never asks for camera access: pairing uses Google's own code scanner.
FREE, AND DROPPLE PRO
Everything above is free. A few extras come with Dropple Pro on your computer; this app has no in-app purchases and simply picks Pro up from the computer it's paired with. With Pro on the computer, this phone also gets:
• Copy text automatically: text you copy on your computer is ready to paste here
• The bubble: a button over your other apps that sends what you copied, photos or files
• A Quick Settings tile that sends what you copied
• A Send copied button on the Connected notification
Pro also adds a clipboard history, automatic sharing and the notch shelf on the computer itself.
PERMISSIONS AND WHY
• Internet and network access: to reach the computer you paired with, on your local Wi-Fi. Dropple talks only to that computer.
• Foreground service (connected device) and the ongoing "Connected to your computer" notification: keeps the connection to your computer open while Dropple is in the background, so files and text from it arrive and can be announced, saved or copied. It runs only while "Stay connected in the background" is on; turn it off in Settings or with Turn off on the notification. You can hide the notification itself in Android's settings and Dropple keeps working.
• Change network state: Android 14 and later require this of apps that stay connected to another device on the network. Dropple doesn't change your Wi-Fi settings.
• Notifications: to tell you when a file, photo or text arrives, and for the Connected notification above.
• Display over other apps: only for the optional bubble. It's off until you switch the bubble on and allow it in Android's settings.
• Run at startup (receive boot completed): to reconnect after your phone restarts, only if staying connected is on.
