About this app

Aegis is for those who have already decided to quit gambling and want help to sustain that decision during difficult times.

It blocks access to gambling websites and apps directly on your device, creating distance between the impulse and the screen.

How it works

The protection runs on your phone itself. There is no Shield Labs browsing server: your browsing doesn't pass through us, isn't logged, and isn't sent to our servers. To protect yourself, you don't need to create an account. You install it, subscribe through Google Play, and activate it.

Why Aegis uses Android's VPN function

Aegis uses the Android VpnService API to filter access to gambling websites and apps within the device itself. There is no VPN server: the filtering happens locally, on your phone.

This is the only way to block access to all apps on your device without requiring root access or administrator permissions. It's what sustains the three layers of the product: the blocking itself, the Commitment, and the Guardian.

While the protection is active, the VPN icon appears in the Android status bar. Three Layers Between the Impulse and the Disconnect

Commitment. You choose a period, from 7 to 90 days, during which protection cannot be disabled by a two-minute change of heart.

PIN Lock. A 6-digit code is required to deactivate protection during the Commitment period. If you forget it, there is a recovery period with a 72-hour waiting period. The waiting period is part of the protection.

Guardian. A trusted person, on their device, monitors whether the protection is active and responds to your requests. The invitation comes from you, and the other person must accept. They don't see the websites you access, your location, or your messages. They only see the protection status and what you requested. Being a guardian is free.

Plans

All start with 7 free days. The Basic plan covers betting sites licensed to operate in Brazil. The Premium plan expands to a much larger list, including sites that operate without a license. The Guardian plan includes everything and adds another person.

What Aegis Doesn't Do

No lockdown is complete, and we don't promise otherwise. The device remains yours, and Aegis doesn't prevent you from turning it off. It adds friction at the moment it matters. It also doesn't replace treatment, nor the support of family, friends, or professionals. It works well alongside them.

Privacy

Your browsing is not monitored by Shield Labs. Nothing about the websites you access is sent or stored by Shield Labs. An email account exists only for those using the Guardian, because it connects two people.
