EDS (Encrypted Data Store) is a virtual disk encryption software for Android which allows you to store your files in an encrypted container. VeraCrypt(R), TrueCrypt(R), LUKS, EncFs container types are supported.

EDS Lite is a free and open source edition of EDS.

Required permissions:

"Modify or delete the contents of your SD card"
This permission is required to work with a file or a container that is located in the shared storage of your device.

"Prevent phone from sleeping"
This permissions is used to prevent device from sleeping when a file operation is active.

Seems like it will work but way too complicated. Nonrooted devices need to send files to a temporary folder. I send files to the temporary folder and it doesn't tell me where that folders location is or how to access it. No shortcuts in the app or anything. Once I find this folder we'll see how well app works. Edit: okay you select the path in settings but this app makes you figure out way too much on your own, like temp folder and exfat download. Once you figure it out the app works good.

App is working (2 stars for that). But it is awful. All UI is as counter intuitive as possible - aiming for struggle as much as possible to find how to mount or add files in container. But most important, it can't mount without root and the same time can't work with changing temp folder content. It only can save changes inside file and nothing more. Example: if you use a single file to take note - it can save changes in it. But if you creating in same folder note files for each info - it can't.

Absolutely wonderful! Just looked at help, watched a few videos and I'm up and running. Made a container, then took some time working how to put anything in it, but got there in the end. Doesn't seem to read from my external SD card. Nor do I understand the bit about ExFat containers, but it doesn't matter. So far as I'm concerned this tiny app works well. Top marks to the developers. Sorry I didn't give it 5 star first time round.
