Two things make Serbian its own world, and this course is built around both.

First, the script. Serbian is written in Cyrillic and Latin alike, and Speak Serbian teaches the Latin alphabet you can already read, so you are learning the language from the first minute instead of first learning to decode it. Second, the words. This is genuinely Serbian vocabulary, not a near neighbour's: leb for bread, voz for train, kafa for coffee, mleko for milk, sargarepa for carrot. The differences are small on paper and everything in a real conversation.

There is culture woven in too, right down to Slava, the family patron-saint day that is distinctly Serbian and has no equivalent elsewhere in the region.

The course runs deep: 54 levels, 179 lessons, over 845 words and phrases, from Zdravo to fluent-feeling conversation, taking in greetings, food, family, numbers, time, the cities you will hear about (Beograd, Novi Sad, Nis, Kragujevac), verbs, grammar and daily speech.
