About this app

Better spelling starts with better writing. Spelling Live connects
the two — giving children of all ages structured spelling practice
alongside real handwriting coaching and parent-facing progress reports.

Built by a father of two: one child with additional needs, one
highly capable child aiming for 11+. Spelling Live exists to
support both journeys in one calm, practical app.

PRACTICE MODES

Play — general practice from age-band word lists, great for
regular skill growth and building confidence.

11+ Test — targets words curated for 11+ exam preparation,
focused and exam-realistic.

List Practice — upload your child's school or homework list and
practise directly from it.

Play All My Lists — merges all uploaded lists into one session
with duplicate words removed.

HOW CHILDREN PRACTISE

Type, tap, speak, or handwrite answers — choose the input method
that suits your child and the goal for that session. Spoken mode
maps pronunciation to spelling. Handwriting mode adds written
output quality for exam-like practice. Multiple choice works well
for warm-up before full recall tasks.

All word lists use UK English spelling throughout.

PROGRESS TRACKING

See exactly what your child knows, what they are getting wrong,
and what to focus on next. Every session tracks which words were
correct first time, which needed more than one attempt, and which
were incorrect — building a picture of each word's difficulty for
your child specifically.

Words are grouped into mastered, in progress, and words to
revisit so you always know whether to move on or keep drilling.

HANDWRITING AND LETTER FORMATION REPORTS

Most spelling apps only tell you if the answer was right or wrong.
Spelling Live shows you how your child is writing — giving parents
a level of insight that goes far beyond a simple pass or fail.

When children practise in handwriting mode, each attempt is
assessed for how letters were actually formed — stroke order,
start position, sizing, joins, spacing, and reversals.

For early years children (Year 1-2), the Formation Report shows
a grid of upper and lowercase letters with a green, amber, and
red summary of how often formation looked confident, plus recent
checks with short coaching tips and thumbnails of what was written.

For older children, the Writing Report includes a fluency score
out of 100, a radar-style writing profile chart covering size,
joins, spacing, and shape, plus strengths and areas to develop
in plain language.

DIFFICULT WORDS

Mark specific words as difficult after any session. These words
are automatically brought back at the start of the next session
so practice time goes where it matters most.

REWARDS AND STREAKS

Points, streaks, levels, and badges keep effort high without
turning practice into pressure. Daily streak tracking encourages
the short consistent sessions that build stronger retention over time.
