About this app

This add-on enables remote control of a Zebra device through the Splashtop SOS app or Splashtop Streamer app by a technician using Splashtop Rugged & IoT Remote Support with proper commercial license required.

Using this add-on with Splashtop SOS:

2. Install the appropriate Add-on per the instructions in the SOS app
3. Share the session ID to your remote technician who will use their Splashtop Rugged & IoT Remote Support account to remotely access and control the device

Using this add-on with Splashtop Streamer:
1. Download and launch Splashtop Streamer app on your device (created and deployed from your Splashtop Remote Support account)
2. Install appropriate Add-on per the instructions in the Streamer app
3. Use the Splashtop Rugged & IoT Remote Support product that you obtained from Splashtop to remotely access and control the device.

WHY THIS APP REQUIRES THE FOREGROUND_SERVICE_MEDIA_PROJECTION PERMISSION

Real-time screen capture and streaming is the core function of this app.
Without it, the app has no purpose and cannot deliver remote support.

Two properties of this app make a foreground service of type mediaProjection
the only viable implementation:

1. Capture must continue while the device user is not interacting with this
app. A support session is only useful if the technician can see the screen
while the user operates the app they need help with. Screen capture must
therefore run for the entire duration of the session, in the background.

2. This add-on has no user-facing interface. It is a companion component that
obtains screen capture authorization through the Zebra device SDK and then
initiates capture through the Android MediaProjection API. That API requires
the component initiating capture to be either a visible activity or a
running foreground service. Because this add-on intentionally presents no
UI on the managed device, a foreground service is the only remaining option,
and the mediaProjection service type is the one Android requires for screen
capture.

The device user remains aware that capture is active:

- Screen capture authorization is granted in advance by the organization's IT
administrator through MDM policy on the enterprise-managed device
- A persistent notification remains visible in the status bar for the entire
duration of the session
- Capture stops as soon as the session ends

No screen content is captured outside an active, authorized support session.
