About this app

Working, studying, on a night shift, on a long drive — and suddenly your eyes were closed.
Drowsiness Guard watches your eyelids and head position through your phone's camera and wakes you with sound, vibration, the screen and the light when signs of drowsiness persist.

STARTS THE MOMENT YOU OPEN IT
Prop up your phone with the camera facing you. Detection starts when the app opens. It looks at how long your eyes stay closed and what share of the last minute they were closed; blinks don't trigger it. Set the closed-eye time from 3 to 60 seconds (default 5).

WATCHES YOUR HEAD TOO
If your head slumps forward, tips back or falls sideways from your usual posture and stays there, it wakes you. Your usual posture is learned slowly, so camera placement doesn't matter. When the eyes can't be read (sunglasses) it shows EYES HIDDEN and watches your head only.

KEEPS WATCHING IN OTHER APPS AND WITH THE SCREEN OFF
Detection continues when you switch apps or turn the screen off. The persistent notification only says "running".

STOP IT WITHOUT TOUCHING THE PHONE
- Keep your eyes open for 3 seconds (for a head alarm, sit back up for 3 seconds)
- Say "okita" (I'm awake) or "stop" — uses your phone's speech recognition; can be turned off
- Press a volume button, the play button on your steering wheel or earphones, or the home button
- Tap "Stop" on the notification — no need to return to the app
- A big "I'm awake!" button appears when you're looking at the screen

IN A CAR (set "Where you use it" to Car)
Keep Maps in front while it watches. When drowsiness is detected it tells you to rest at the next service area, parking lot or safe shoulder, and nudges you if you keep looking to the side.
In a car, use it as an aid only and at your own risk. It does not replace the driver's duty of care. Do not handle the phone while driving, mount it where it doesn't block your view, and follow traffic law. If you feel sleepy, stop somewhere safe and rest — whatever the app says.

LIGHTS YOUR FACE IN THE DARK
If it's too dark to find your face, the screen turns white and bright to light it (can be turned off).

WAKES YOU QUIETLY, THEN LOUDER
Vibration first, then a quiet sound, then a loud one. With earphones in, the sound goes there (earphones-only playback isn't guaranteed).

WAKES YOU WHEN SOMEONE CALLS
Optionally wake on notifications from Slack, Teams, Outlook, Gmail, LINE or Discord, or when the phone rings (needs notification access). It only checks which app the notification came from; contents are never sent or stored.

NAP TIMER, POMODORO, HYDRATION, LOG
A 5/10/20/30-minute nap timer, a Pomodoro timer, a hydration reminder, and an on-device log of detected events with a sleep-improvement guide. The app does not diagnose or treat any condition.

NOTHING LEAVES YOUR DEVICE
Eyelid and head analysis happens on your phone; camera frames are never uploaded or recorded, and the microphone is never recorded. "Stop by voice" uses your phone's speech-recognition feature, so audio while the alarm rings may be processed by that service (can be turned off). No account needed. Ads, purchases and speech recognition use the network.

PREMIUM (ONE-TIME PURCHASE)
No ads, all themes, and a sender filter for "wake me when someone calls". Every wake-up feature stays free.
