About this app

Body surface area is the calculated measure of the total surface area of a person's body. It is often used in medicine to determine appropriate medication dosages especially in cancer treatment.
The most commonly used formula for calculating BSA is the DuBois formula
BSA (m²) = 0.20247 x height (m)^0.725 x weight (kg)^0.425
Another widely used formula is the Mosteller formula is
BSA (m²) = square root of [(height (cm) x weight (kg))/3600]
In this application we are using DuBois formula to calculate the Body surface area. Chemotherapeutic agent dose is mentioned as mg per square meter of body surface area.
In this application, height and weight of the patient are taken for the calculation of body surface area according to DuBois formula, then to calculate the dose, body surface area is multiplied with recommended dosing of the desired chemotherapeutic agent.
In the screenshots, the calculation of intravenous flurouracil dose of an individual whose weight is 79 kg and height is 177 cm (1.77 m) is demonstrated.
The resulting dose was 2903 mg.
All the details were taken from Physician's Cancer Chemotherapy Drug Manual 2022 release by Edward Chu, MD FACP and Vincent T. DeVita, Jr., MD.
