After KYC, DeepPocket called quickly and requested extra documents via an SMS link. Once approved, I topped up by credit card and could pay both local and personal Thai QR codes without hassle. Yes, the 4.5% card fee is high, but for foreigners with the right visa/documents, it works better than the alternatives I've tried. Also, you can’t top up before approval, so funds can’t get trapped during KYC. Support was proactive and the whole process was smoother than expected.

Was working great until I changed phones and suddenly wasn't receiving SMS OTP's. The only solution was to close the account and reopen another with an email address. It took a month for them to close it. Now I can't open another one because they've updated their requirements for documentation. They require ones that only Thai Nationals or people on Long Term Visas would have - and they would have a bank account with no use for this app. Going to just give up. Don't bother.

It's a great app for travelling in SEA, highly recommend. The error messaging around having a 'modified device' could be a lot clearer though. Had to check a bunch of things before realising it just doesn't like Twilight displaying over it :/
