TapPony turns any NFC tag into a button for your own server. Tap a tag and your phone sends an HTTP request you designed: a webhook, a REST API call, a form post or a simple GET. The request carries the tag's UID, its chip details and the NDEF content written on it.
It works with NFC stickers, cards, key fobs and labels you never wrote, so the badges and tags you already have can trigger your automations right away.
No account. No cloud. No tracking. The request goes straight from your phone to the URL you typed, and your profiles, scan history and secrets stay on your device.
What you can build
• Home automation: a tag by the door runs a scene or sends a webhook to your smart home server
• Inventory and asset tracking: one tap per item logs it to your spreadsheet, database or API
• Check-ins, attendance and security rounds: a tag at each checkpoint, with the server's answer on screen
• Your own scripts: any server that accepts HTTP can react to an NFC scan
Request builder
• POST, GET, PUT, PATCH or DELETE
• JSON, form or plain text body built from templates like {uid}, {payload} and {timestamp}
• Custom headers, plus bearer, basic and API key authentication
• Optional HMAC-SHA256 signing so your server can verify each request
• Presets for common webhook setups, editable after creation
• See the server's reply after every tap, or have it read out loud for hands-free use
NFC reader
• Reads the tag UID in canonical byte order, plus chip model, signature and scan counter when the chip has them
• Reads NDEF text and links
• Rules route each tag to the right profile by UID, type, content or a name you gave it
• Batch mode for scanning many tags in a row
• Offline queue that sends scans in order once you're back online
NFC writer
• Write links, text, or the tag's own UID to a tag
• Write a TapPony launch link that opens the app and sends, even when the app is closed
• Optional permanent lock, behind a second confirmation
Quick access
• Quick Settings tile
• Home screen shortcuts for each profile
• tappony://scan links that other automation apps can open
Privacy and security
• Plain HTTP only goes to addresses on your own network, and only when you turn it on for that profile
• Secrets are encrypted with a key kept in the phone's hardware-backed keystore and never appear in history or exports
• Scan history stays on the device, with CSV export
• No ads, no analytics, no account
