so far, about 3 weeks in, I really like the app. has a great deal of useful functionality. however for the first time today I experienced an inability to connect on the app. there is nothing wrong with the router because I was easily able to log into the router through my desktop using a wired connection. I suspect a lot of the problems reported with this app are because data needs to be exchanged with a server in China, now I'm not sure of that but it seems the case.

Can't update firmware and the security of the connection on my MW6 units is weak. Presumably that would be fixed by the update but after several hours, many attempts, and even a reset I gave up and picked up some tp-link deco units. I will hold onto these in case this is ever fixed but I'm not getting my hopes up. There's no real price advantage anymore either (which has been the main selling point of these over stuff from Walmart) so meh.

In order to login to the Tenda portal, the app requires ridiculously excessive access to your device. Upon clicking the account icon in the upper right corner of the app, you are prompted to allow the app access to your photos, media and "files" on your device. I don't think I want to allow a Chinese company to access all of my files, photo and media. Tenda, in 2018, you should know better.
