About this app

6 Multitrack Recorder is a lightweight, low-latency multi track recording app with six tracks, a mixer and built-in effects. You can record parts one on top of another, mix them with faders, pan, mute and solo, and edit each track in a waveform editor: cut, copy, paste, crop, fade, normalize, reverse, and shift a track to fix timing. Each track has its own effects chain with fuzz, compressor, 5-band EQ, phaser, chorus, delay and reverb. When you run out of tracks, bounce several of them down into one and keep going.

For practising and recording ideas there’s a metronome with tap tempo and count-in, an A/B loop to repeat a section while you work on it, and undo for when a take goes wrong. This is very useful if you’re a musician like me and want to build up a song part by part, right on your phone. Finished songs can be exported as WAV or AAC, and you can import existing audio files onto any track.

The app works with stereo microphones such as the IK Multimedia iRig Stream Mic Pro: in stereo mode each take records onto a pair of tracks, left and right. Recordings are automatically aligned with what you hear, so overdubs stay in time. In fact, I created this app because I wanted a real multitrack recorder on Android that doesn’t get in the way.

The app is highly optimized, with an audio engine written in native code. It has no ads, no tracking: the only permission it asks for is the microphone. Your recordings stay on your phone.

The app is completely free, but you can support its development through donations.
