About this app

Untap — Take Control of Your Time

Tired of losing hours to TikTok, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and other brain-rotting apps? Unrot puts you back in control with a simple, beautiful shield that makes you pause before mindlessly scrolling.

How It Works
When you open a controlled app, Unrot shows a calm pause shield with a countdown timer. This brief delay breaks the autopilot habit loop and gives your brain a chance to decide — do you really want to open this right now?

Key Features

Pause Shield — Configurable delay (5–60 seconds) before you can open distracting apps. Enough friction to break the habit, not enough to frustrate you.

Session Timer — Set how long you're allowed to use each app per session. When time's up, the shield returns.

Focus Time — Schedule distraction-free hours. During focus mode, controlled apps are completely blocked.

Math Challenge — Optionally require solving a math problem to open an app. Great for extra friction when you need it.

Hard Lock — Completely block specific apps with no way to bypass.

Screen Time Tracking — See your real daily usage at a glance — total screen time and controlled app time, with clean donut charts.

Per-App Stats — Track how many times you opened each app and how long you used it today.

Pause for 1 Hour — Need a break from protection Temporarily disable it with one tap.

Weekly Reports — Understand your usage patterns over time.

Why Unrot?

Apps like TikTok, Instagram, and Snapchat employ teams of engineers optimizing for one thing: keeping you hooked. Infinite scroll, variable rewards, streak mechanics — these are designed to hijack your attention. Unrot is designed to give it back.

Required Permissions:
1. Usage Access: to detect app usage and measure screen-time activity
2. Display over other apps / Overlay: to show the pause shield when a controlled app is opened
3. Accessibility: To detect when YouTube Shorts is opened inside the YouTube app. To help redirect away from Shorts or show the pause shield for the Shorts-only protection feature.
4. Battery Optimization: To let Untap run reliably in the background so protection keeps working.

The app is really good and it keeps me away from things that distract me but I honestly prefer how it worked before the last update. Before, I could turn on focus mode and I couldn’t turn it off until the selected time was complete and that helped me stay disciplined. Now I can easily turn it on and off and that kind of defeats the whole purpose for me.

Hi Tama, That really makes sense. We’ll bring back the Strict Focus Mode feature in the next update. Thank you so much for taking the time to share your feedback. Please let us know if there’s any other feature you’d like to see improved or if you have any suggestions. You can send feedback anytime through the app’s Feedback section.

Untap is amazing for focus. As a feature request, it would be awesome to have the ability to set a subtle wallpaper or background where the apps are listed, instead of just a solid black screen. It would add a nice touch of customization without ruining the minimalist vibe. Keep up the great work!

Hi Mora, thank you for reporting this issue. We’ve noticed this can happen on some Realme, OPPO, and Xiaomi devices, where the system stop background services due to battery or security optimizations, even when permissions are enabled. We’re actively working on this issue and aiming to fix it in upcoming updates.
