About this app

Abu Hanifa en-Numan ibn Sabit al-Kufi September 5, 699, Al-Kufa - June 18, 767, Baghdad) is an Islamic theologian, fakih and muhaddis, the founder and eponym of one of the four Sunni law schools - the Hanafi madhhab.

Born in the city of Kufa in the family of a wealthy silk merchant of Iranian origin (from the Iranian mawali) and, most likely, was the only son of his parents. His grandfather converted to Islam during the time of the caliph Umar ibn al-Khattab. In Kufa, Abu Hanifa received a general and theological education. Among his teachers were the companions of the Prophet Muhammad. When Abu Hanifa was 22 years old, he became a student of the Iraqi theologian Hammad ibn Abu Suleiman, in whose circle he spent 18 years until the death of his teacher, and then he headed this circle for ten years, considered the most authoritative fakih of Kufa and Basra.
