About this app

VidaTalk™ is a multilingual, speech generating, communication tool for patients who need assistance with communication, including those who are nonverbal, intubated, have a tracheostomy, or suffered a stroke. VidaTalk also serves as a point of care bilingual communication tool empowering patients who speak a different language from their provider. VidaTalk provides text and speech in both languages, allows patients to both request an interpreter and connect to a live interpreter with a single tap. The most common phrases used by hospitalized patients can be selected with a single touch. Talk-to-text helps patients who are hard of hearing. Patients may also type personalized messages, translate those messages and draw with their finger which allows for quick, easy and customizable communication. Words and phrases specific to their needs are expressed through recorded audio, giving every patient a personalized voice.

This version of VidaTalk includes English and bilingual communication with both verbal and written translation for 45 languages: Albanian, Amharic, Arabic, Armenian, Bosnian, Burmese, Cantonese, Chinese, Creole, Czech, Dari, Dutch, English, Farsi, French, German, Greek, Hebrew, Hindi, Hmong, Indonesian, Italian, Japanese, Khmer, Korean, Kurdish (Central), Kurdish (Northern), Lithuanian, Marshallese, Nepalese, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Russian, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Swedish, Tagalog, Thai, Tigrinya, Turkish, Ukrainian, and Vietnamese.

VidaTalk was specifically designed and tested for the hospital environment with funding support from the National Institutes of Health, National Institute of Nursing Research NR014087. Speech generating solutions for long-term or chronic communication disabilities often fail to meet the unique needs of the healthcare environment and leave nonverbal patients unable to actively participate with their care.
