About this app

This app requires bluetooth connections to Polar H10 Heart Rate Monitor (polar.com/en/products/heart-rate-sensors/); and, CoreBodyTemperature Monitor (corebodytemp.com), to optimally perform its fitness functions. This app cannot function independently of these required external sensors.

Deep-EKG reads heart rate from **two sensors in parallel** during a workout: the watch's built-in wrist photoplethysmogram (PPG) sensor, plus streaming the Polar H10 chest-strap Heart Rate, which also includes: R-R intervals, and EKG over Bluetooth. Both heart rate values are shown side by side on the comparison screen and graph during an active workout. The `health`-typed foreground service keeps this dual-heart-rate-sensor pipeline — plus derived EKG analysis (FFT, DFA-alpha-1) — running for the full workout, which the user starts and stops explicitly, and which is always visible via an ongoing notification and Recents Tile.

Deep-EKG only use of GPS is to display current Speed in MPH on the Speed screen and Speed vs Heart Rate graph during an active workout. Latitude, longitude, altitude, bearing, and route/path are never shown, stored, or exported. GPS runs only for the duration of the user-initiated workout, alongside the heart rate tracking described above.

Accelerometer data is streamed from the Polar H10 sensor and shown in charts and graphs and used to detect motion or cadence (for example: steps/sec, displayed in Hz).

Initial start-up screen is workout screen, which follows ongoing workout activity. Long Press the gray button to begin your workout -- it turns green -- and auto-connects to your Polar H10 and Core Temp sensors. Then, live workout elapsed time and heart rate are displayed in the recent apps menu, and the deep-EKG heart chip is displayed at the bottom of the watch face -- both are easy short cuts for immediate access back into the live deep-EKG app.

Available Watch Face complications include: polar H10 heart rate; core body temperature; and your MP (major peaks) and DFA (Detrended Fluctuation Analysis) values used to determine lactate threshold (LT1, LT2). Deep-EKG complications are set up by using the wear OS watch face app on your android phone.

Heart Rate, EKG, V200, Lactate Threshold, and Core Body Temperature charts are saved as png and pdf files in the watch public picture and documents directories. The workout summary pdf report is generated when the end workout button is pressed by the user. Google drive access is requested solely to upload deep-EKG charts and reports from the watch.

Deep-EKG app provides:
- Heart rate and running speed monitoring;
- RR interval processing to calculate Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (DFA) values;
- EKG digital signal processing to calculate Major Peaks (MP) values;
- Non-invasive Lactate Threshold detection (LT1, LT2) via parallel MP and DFA algorithms;
- Automatic scanning when an outlier EKG 8 second strips is discovered, for irregular heartbeat patterns that may affect your fitness and wellness;
- Core Body Temperature monitoring;

Deep-EKG app works best to detect your lactate threshold when using all three sensors together: (i) Polar H10 EKG, HR, and RR intervals; (ii) Wrist Watch PPG-based HR and GPS; and, (iii) Core Body Temperature.

Begin and end your workout without carrying your phone.

During heavy exercise, discover and continuously update your V200 (running speed at HR=200), and lactate thresholds (LT1, LT2 vs speed, heart rate).

Finally, workout activity is completed by long pressing the large green button on the workout screen --> the button will turn red, then gray, indicating the workout is finished --> and auto-disconnect your Polar H10 and Core Temp sensors.
