About this app

Waistline is a calorie counter and weight tracker that allows you to keep a diary of the food you eat and track variations in your weight.

All data is kept on your device, it's never shared with a server or uploaded to the "cloud" (unless you want to upload data to Open Food Facts) but it can be exported or imported easily when needed.

The app includes a barcode scanner that connects to the Open Food Facts database to pull in product information.

Best of all this app respects your freedom, data, and privacy. It is entirely free/libre and open source. The source code is available on GitHub - https://github.com/davidhealey/waistline

What an absolute gem of an app! As someone who values accuracy, simplicity, and flexibility, I'm very glad to have found Waistline. It has a bare bones feel to it in a very positive way. No useless bells and whistles, no gimmicks, no mascots. Just a beautifully pure app that does what it should, and does it super well! For anyone who is serious about nutrition and already has a good understanding of what to track, this app is peak perfection.

Love that the database used is OpenFoodFacts. However, it would be nice to see more integration with the database if possible. The ability to edit the database from Waistline would be a great benefit, rather than needing to also download a separate app and log into that. I can edit scanned items or create for new items, but it seems this is only local for me to see? Edit: Bigger issue is that there is no database for non-barcode items such as NUTTAB! Almost a great replacement for MyFitnessPal..

Waistline is not going to become an Open Food Facts editor (or an editor for the other databases it interacts with). Although it is possible to upload new items to the OFF database from within Waistline.

Really good app for tracking calories! The first 2 weeks spent filling the database with common foods was a little time consuming but the payoff was definitely worth it. I was able to lose more than 10kg in 6 months by diligently adding what I ate each day. The barcode scan feature was very helpful in this respect. My only (minor) gripe would be the lack of a user guide. It took me more than a month to figure out that you could quick add by holding the "+" symbol.

An earlier version did have a user guide, but then more and more features were added and now I don't even know everything that the app can do! Probably in the future we will include some kind of beginner guide/tutorial for the most used functionality.
