About this app

See the Northern Lights with confidence — not by luck. AuroraMe combines real-time space weather, cloud coverage, moon phase, and local darkness into clear aurora visibility forecasts. Track multiple locations worldwide and receive smart notifications only when conditions align for actual viewing.

CORE FEATURES

Current Aurora Status
Real-time visibility combining NOAA OVATION space weather data, KP index, cloud coverage, moon brightness, and local darkness. Simple status: No Activity / Possible Activity / Aurora Visible / Strong Activity. Factor breakdown shows what's helping or blocking visibility right now. Updates every 5-10 minutes.

Smart Notifications
Push alerts arrive only when aurora is actually visible: clear skies, dark hours, and sufficient geomagnetic activity. Per-location thresholds let you set minimum activity levels. Quiet hours protection (default 11 PM - 7 AM, customizable) prevents night spam. 30-minute cooldown between alerts.

Short-Term Forecast (12-72 hours)
Hourly aurora predictions with operational weather forecasts. See cloud coverage, moon phase, and darkness windows hour-by-hour. Updates every 10-30 minutes. Free: 6-hour forecast. Premium: full 72-hour forecast.

Monthly Trend Calendar (27 days)
Daily aurora activity summaries for long-term trip planning. Shows 6-hour viewing corridors per day. Excludes unreliable long-range weather to prevent false expectations. Updates daily.

Aurora History (3+ years)
Multi-year statistical analysis from 8,768+ KP measurements (GFZ Potsdam + NOAA, 2022-2025). Best months algorithm shows top viewing months. Calendar heatmap displays 12 months × 4 weeks intensity grid. Yesterday's observation shows detailed viewing windows. Location-calibrated: Tromsø 200 nights/year, Edinburgh 10 nights/year.

Multiple Locations
Track up to 10 locations simultaneously. Each location has independent notification settings, sensitivity thresholds, and quiet hours. Free: 1 location. Premium: 10 locations. No background tracking.

HOW IT WORKS
AuroraMe combines four reality factors: (1) Space weather from NOAA OVATION + KP index, (2) Cloud coverage from Open-Meteo forecasts, (3) Astronomical factors (sun altitude and moon illumination), (4) Magnetic latitude with location-specific thresholds (Tromsø needs KP ≥ 1.0, Edinburgh needs KP ≥ 6.0).

When factors align for your saved locations during dark hours with clear skies, you receive a notification. Updates arrive every 5-10 minutes as new data becomes available.

FOR TRAVELERS & PHOTOGRAPHERS
Whether you live in Alaska, Canada, Iceland, Scotland, Norway, Finland, or the northern US, AuroraMe helps you avoid wasted drives and cloudy nights. Save likely spots, set alert thresholds matching your tolerance, and let the app monitor conditions. Photographers get detailed probability data for optimal shooting windows.

EXAMPLE
Save Fairbanks and Reykjavik. Set Fairbanks alerts to "Possible Activity" threshold. Set Reykjavik to "Aurora Visible" for stronger displays. Enable quiet hours 11 PM - 6 AM. AuroraMe alerts you when thresholds cross during viewing hours. Check Best Time for the optimal hour tonight, or review 72-hour forecast to plan tomorrow's trip.

PRIVACY & CONTROL
You're in charge. Use current location once — no background tracking. Manage locations, alert thresholds, and quiet hours anytime. Data is used to provide features, not for resale. European data centers ensure GDPR compliance.

LANGUAGES
Arabic, Danish, German, English, Spanish, Finnish, French, Hindi, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Norwegian, Portuguese, Russian, Swedish, Chinese.

NOTES

Hey! Sorry the alert didn’t come through — that must’ve been frustrating. Please check if alerts are enabled, try lowering the sensitivity level, and make sure you still have free alerts left. We’ll review our forecast models. Could you tell us which city the aurora was visible from? That’ll help us improve accuracy.
