Everybody walks. Now it counts for something.
WalkTeaming puts you on a team of five and plays your week against another team. Walk 2,337 steps in a day and the day counts. Walk a little more and your team climbs. That is the whole game: walk at your own pace, on your own time, and every step you bring helps your team.
WHY 2,337
Because that is where the evidence starts. A study of 226,889 people found that the risk of heart disease began falling at 2,337 steps a day, and that every extra 1,000 steps cut the risk of dying from any cause by 15 percent. We put the bar exactly there instead of somewhere that sounded good. The 10,000 you have heard of was the name of a Japanese pedometer from 1965.
HOW IT WORKS
2,337 steps makes a day count. That is about twenty minutes of ordinary walking: a trip to the shops, a walk with the dog, a loop of the block.
Your best day is your score. Only your highest daily step count each week is scored, so one good walk carries you. Every week starts fresh.
Everybody on the team counts. All five scores go into the team total, and every one of them moves it.
Handicaps keep it fair, like bowling. Everyone gets a handicap based on their own usual day, so a 5,000-step walker and a 15,000-step walker can be on the same team and both matter.
Tap a teammate's name to see how their score was made: their best day, their handicap, their average and their week.
YOUR STEPS
WalkTeaming reads one thing from Health Connect: how many steps you took each day. Nothing else.
Teams are drawn fresh on the 1st of each month. Join mid-month and you are placed on a team straight away. Your league is your country, and the week closes when Sunday ends where you live.
WalkTeaming is free while it is in open testing on Android. An iPhone version is on the way.
2,337 steps a day scores for your team. That number is not a guess.
