Food-Music Memories - Ideas for better communication in dementia care
The app Food-Music Memories is a method worked out to the stimuli associated with food and music make it easier for people with dementia to remember. The smell, taste, sight, touch and hearing works as "minnesväckare" while calls and objects linked to memories that the person might not otherwise have been able to elicit.
The app is an interactive and practical tool for staff and family members, and includes tips and inspiration on how best to work to open doors to conversation and communion with people who have dementia.
Food, music, memories
The app "Memories Menu" containing ten themes, such as "Country Life", "lake and sea", "food traditions" and others. Using triggers / trigger was, awakened the senses to life. It can be through images, music, objects, tastes and smells. The person with dementia rarely have the same experience as the younger staff and interactive app makes it easier to meet.
Activities and discussions
Each theme contains three headings. Under the heading "Food" are things you can practically do together to enhance the theme's content. Under the heading "Music" is specially composed pieces of music or sound backdrop that alludes to the theme. Under the title "Memories" is about 1,000 photographs from different periods related to the different themes. The pictures are tiny time capsules that can avlockas a story. The right questions, many memories come to the surface, the app includes tips on how to get there.

The app Food-Music Memories has been developed by Agricultural Society West in cooperation with Dementia Association and the elderly in Alingsås and Kungälv.
