The Madal consists of a cylindrical body with a slight bulge at its center and heads at both ends, one head larger than the other. It is usually played horizontally in a seated position, with both heads played simultaneously.

This typical Nepalese percussion instrument is the backbone of most of Nepali folk music (sangeet) such as lok Dohori, Adhunik geet ,Nepali Songs,Nepali Movie songs,Nepali Pop Songs, Teej Songs and Geet, Dheusi Vailo, etc. Nepali Bhajan kirtan played during puja and darshan use Madal as percussion instrument.
